DOGS SA AFFILIATED CLUB

Rottweiler Club of SA Inc

When was the club founded:
Formally incorporated on the 10/08/1979.

What does the club do:
OBEDIENCE TRAINING
Allison Wells is our Head Trainer and has been a dog trainer and behaviourist for well… many years (even before the horse and carriage was a thing), so she brings “some” experience with her! We’ll get some more info on Allison to you in upcoming issues, but you can be assured that you are in safe hands.
Although the training is being managed by the Club, we encourage everyone regardless of breed to come and try us. Large, small, young or old, fluff or no fluff, ANKC bred or rescue, we don’t care!  Also, feel free to recommend this to non-RCSA members.
If anyone wishes to come and try, not a problem, just send a message to the Facebook group or secretary (details below) and one of our fab team will get back to you!
This training is not traditional ‘dogs and humans in a line’ format that is run by other obedience groups. We do not discredit other trainings groups at all. In fact, we encourage you to participate in anything dog related, a busy dog is a happy (and less destructive) dog. There are no labels here, the work you will do is specific to you and your pooch and tailored to what you want to achieve and learn.

WHEN:       Wednesday evenings 7:30pm
WHERE:       Dogs SA, Kilburn SA

Interesting information about the club:
Early 1973, in response to an article printed in the ‘Messenger’ Newspapers with a photograph of a ‘black and tan’ dog asking for anyone who owns one or would like to know more about them, several people gathered in the South Parklands for a picnic. There were a number of happy people with children and a few of them even brought their beloved dogs along. Whilst we talked the dogs were let ‘loose’ with the kids to play in the creek beds along the road.

We decided to form a social breed club where we could compare notes and gain more knowledge from some of the people who had owned Rottweilers and keep in touch with the breeders who were mostly living in Victoria. Our Club grew and over the years became affiliated with the South Australian Canine Association, and was formally incorporated on the 10/08/1979.

We then became eligible to hold our own ‘Parade’ and ‘Open Show’ and, not long after this, then qualified to hold a ‘Championship Show’. We very quickly established our very own ‘Obedience Training’ classes. Our own Patron, Mrs Jan Creek, along with her husband, Don, defected from the South Australian Obedience Dog Club to become our first trainers along with some other faithful followers who also participated in obedience classes at other schools.
