Upcoming Exhibitions (Subject to Change)

Dogs SA schedules approximately 600 events per year, most of which are hosted by the Affiliated Kennel, Breed, Obedience, Agility, Tracking and Retrieving & Field Trials Clubs. There are also events held by the Sub-Committees of Dogs SA which include Conformation Shows and Agility, Obedience, Retrieving, Herding and Earthdog Trials.

On most weekends there are various events scheduled which the general public are free to attend. For further information on any of the events, please contact the Dogs SA Office or Club Secretary for details.

Learn About Breeds

There are over 200 different Pedigree Breeds to choose from.

A few things to consider when selecting which breed is right for you and your family:

  • the amount of exercise and grooming required.
  • the size of the adult dog.
  • the cost to keep the dog throughout its life.
  • the reasons for selecting your chosen breed.
  • some of the activities you and your family would like to participate in with your dog.

Types of Breeds

Pedigree Breeds are sorted into groups of breeds with similar traits and characteristics. For example; all the sheep dogs are in the Working Dog Group.

The groups are;

  • Toys – Group 1
  • Terriers – Group 2
  • Gun Dogs – Group 3
  • Hounds – Group 4
  • Working Dogs – Group 5
  • Utility – Group 6
  • Non-Sporting – Group 7

Breeding Information

The purpose of becoming a Dogs SA registered Breeder is to abide by and improve the standards of your chosen breed by striving to breed healthy sound dogs, both in temperament and construction, and to test breeding stock for any hereditary diseases which may affect the breed.
